Senior year is such an exciting time — full of big milestones, lasting memories, and the start of a brand-new chapter.
But when it comes time for senior portraits, excitement is often mixed with a little bit of nervousness.
One of the most common things I hear from seniors before their session is:
“I’m awkward in photos.”
“I don’t know how to pose.”
“What if I look weird?”
If that sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone — and the good news is, you don’t have to know how to do *anything* before your session!
You Don’t Have to Know How to Pose
This is probably the biggest worry seniors have before their portrait session.
Most seniors assume they’ll be expected to know what to do in front of the camera — how to stand, where to put their hands, how to smile naturally — but that’s not your job.
During your session, I’ll guide you through:
- Where to stand
- What to do with your hands
- How to move naturally
- And how to get those genuine, relaxed smiles
My goal is to make the entire experience feel more like hanging out than being in a formal photo shoot.
We Take It One Step at a Time
There’s no rush during your senior session.
We’ll start with simple, relaxed poses to help you ease into things and get comfortable in front of the camera. As the session goes on, you’ll naturally begin to feel more confident — and that’s when the magic really starts to happen.
By the end of the session, most seniors are surprised by how much fun they actually had!
Wear Something That Makes You Feel Like *You*
Confidence starts with feeling comfortable in what you're wearing.
Choose outfits that:
- Fit well
- Reflect your personality
- Make you feel confident and relaxed
Avoid anything that feels too tight, itchy, or unfamiliar. When you feel good in your outfit, it shows in your photos.
Bring Something Personal
Including something meaningful can help take the focus off the camera and make your session feel more natural.
Some great ideas include:
- Sports equipment
- Musical instruments
- Letterman jackets
- Cap & gown
- Hobby-related items
Personal touches make your images more unique — and help tell your story.
It’s Okay to Feel Nervous
Feeling a little nervous before your session is completely normal.
But remember — you’re not expected to be a model. You just have to show up, be yourself, and trust the process. I’ll take care of the rest!
Senior portraits are meant to celebrate who you are during this exciting season of life, and my goal is to make sure you leave your session feeling confident, comfortable, and proud of your photos.
